Washington State Military Family Life Councilors Win Campaign to Join the IAM Healthcare Union!

Updated: Jan 4, 2022

Washington State Military Family Life Counselors voted by a 89% margin to join the Machinist Union during a mail-in ballot election conducted by the NLRB on July 2nd, 2021.

The MFLCs sought out the IAM’s assistance citing draconian pay reductions, lack of respect and poor management by the third Service Contractor to take over the MFLC mission in the last 4 years.

“These Military Family Life Counselors deserve our respect and the dignity that comes with having a collective bargaining agreement,” said Jon Irvine, Lead Organizer for IAM District W24. “ We know how these service contractors operate and will use our experience, strength and resources to end the cycle of pay cuts and poor working conditions for these new members.”

Military Family Life Counselors also known as MFLCs provide vital mental health services to our military members and their families. They are stationed on every U.S. military base and the surrounding schools throughout the world.

The IAM is currently the largest union representing MFLCs around the nation.
